The United States is lucky to have so many national parks. Congress made laws in the 1800's to protect our lands by creating national parks. Our country was the first in world to create parks to be enjoyed by its citizens. The world's first national public park was Yellowstone. Yellowstone has a lot of history and many incredible things to see, like the wild animals, the geysers, mud pots and plants. There is a lot of history about Yellowstone which dates way back to the Native American Indians.

I think that congress made a great choice by selecting Yellowstone to be our first national park because because it has so many wonderful things to see. For example you can see black bear, grizzly bears, tons of buffalo, gray wolf, bald eagles, moose, beaver and of course deer. Another great part about Yellowstone are the geysers and mud pots. To be able to walk around a giant volcano, and see steam, water and mud bubble out of the earth is really something to see. The biggest predicatable geyser in the world, is the Grande and the most popular geyser is Old Faithful. The wild flowers are known around the world and are best to see in the summer months. The hiking trails go one for miles and and you can camp in designated areas, but watch for the buffalo! They can charge you if you get to close or make threatening movements.

Yellowstone National Park is located in three states: One percent in Idaho, three percent in Montana and 96 percent of it is in Wyoming. It is large than the state of Rhode Island and Delaware combined.
Yellowstone became a national park in the late 1800's. Before that it was land used by many Native American Indians with history dating back 11,000 years ago. The land to the Native American Indians. The Sheep-eaters, a sub-tribe of the Shoshone were the only ones to live in Yellowstone. They hunted the mountain sheep. Yellowstone got its name from the Native Americans, from the yellow rock and then french trappers adopted the Indian terms and translated it to Yellowstone.

President Roosevelt visited the park in 1903 which was really important. He was a conservationist, a person who believes in protecting the lands, water and animals, he loved the park and dedicated an, The Gate of Roosevelt, made of rock, at the north entrance. He enjoyed the park so much that he resided in the park while president of the United States.

Yellowstone is a place that everyone should visit because of all the activities you can do and all of the things you can see and watch.
